Live-In Housekeeper / House Manager
Private Family
Oxfordshire, UK
Permanent | Full-Time | Live-In
Hours: Approximately 40 hours per week, with flexibility required when the family is in residence
Accommodation: Beautiful private 2-bedroom cottage provided on the estate
Start Date: October 2026
The Role
CPS Private Staffing is seeking an experienced and highly capable Housekeeper / House Manager for a beautiful private family residence in Oxfordshire.
The Principals are primarily based in London and generally visit the property at weekends with their three young children. The successful candidate will therefore become a trusted custodian of the residence, taking ownership of its day-to-day care, presentation and smooth running while the family are away.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining high-standard housekeeping with household management, property oversight, light family cooking and the enjoyment of country-estate life.
When the family is not in residence, working hours will generally be Monday to Friday during normal daytime hours. When they are staying at the property, greater flexibility will be required, including some weekend work, with appropriate time off during the week.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the main residence and cottage to an exceptional standard of cleanliness, presentation and organisation, including laundry, wardrobe care, linen and household supplies.
Conduct regular property checks, proactively identifying maintenance issues and ensuring the residence remains secure and beautifully maintained when the family is away.
Coordinate gardeners, contractors, engineers, pool specialists and other service providers, overseeing access and ensuring works are completed correctly.
Maintain household records, servicing schedules, warranties and the Estate Handbook, providing the Principals with concise updates when required.
Prepare the property ahead of the family's arrival, including bedrooms, bathrooms, fresh linen, household supplies, groceries, flowers, lighting, heating and general presentation.
Prepare healthy breakfasts, lunches and simple family dinners, using seasonal produce from the estate's kitchen garden where possible.
Enjoy being involved with the kitchen garden and greenhouse, including picking fresh vegetables and produce, watering where required and making use of seasonal ingredients for the family.
Prepare homemade items such as soups, preserves, chutneys, jams and baked goods where appropriate. This is very much family cooking rather than a Private Chef position.
Provide straightforward daily care for the family's chickens, including feeding, fresh water, collecting eggs and maintaining a clean coop.
Assist with household errands, shopping, dry cleaning and collecting supplies when required.
Provide occasional practical assistance around the family's three children as part of normal household life; this is not a Nanny position and regular sole-charge childcare is not expected.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in caring for a beautiful home and is equally comfortable working independently and being hands-on.
The ideal candidate will have:
Substantial experience within a high-standard private household, ideally as a Senior Housekeeper, Housekeeper / House Manager or similar.
Experience taking responsibility for a second home or weekend residence would be particularly advantageous.
Exceptional housekeeping standards and excellent attention to detail.
Confidence coordinating contractors, maintenance and household administration.
A genuine interest in family cooking, seasonal produce and country living.
A proactive and practical nature, with the ability to spot and resolve problems independently.
Confidence with email, WhatsApp, shared calendars and basic household/smart-home systems.
A warm, discreet and professional manner.
Excellent references demonstrating trust, discretion, reliability and longevity.
Full, clean driving licence.
Right to work in the UK.
Accommodation
A private two-bedroom cottage on the estate is provided with the position.
